Blue Screen (JWF Pong 18)

Description

I know that I'm far, far behind on this pong--I sincerely apologize.  After repeatedly experimenting with the params over the past few weeks to little avail, this past weekend I finally created a fractal with which I would be pleased, a sage-green splits-elliptic combination with hints of orange-gold and cerulean blue...when a Blue Screen of Death appeared, and I lost the fractal completely.  Waaaah!

The Blue Screen giveth, and the Blue Screen taketh away.  What I lost in one fractal, I gained in ample compensation--inspiration for my next fractal.  The next day, I designed the fractal you see here.

(For some reason or another--maybe just more bad luck--the render was still noisy after 2 days of rendering, even at about half my normal rendering resolution...I finally conceded the point and used GIMP for blurring.)

My apologies to snicker02 for my taking so long to respond.  I truly appreciate your patience.  Also, thanks once more to Pongorama for supporting and hosting our pong.

A JWildfire fractal, with minor post processing (a good deal of Selective Gaussian Blur) in GIMP.  As with all my fractals, I highly recommend you zoom in for the best viewing experience.

You should avoid final transforms, when render time is important for you. Two final transforms are too much in most of the cases, but 4 is just overkill, it is nearly like burning your computer.
Remember, that ALL of the final transforms are calculated when ONE of the regular transforms is calculated. This is really heavy stuff, unlike regular transforms.

As a general rule of thumb: if your fractal is well designed, it will render quickly. You should never even think about to let render it for several days. If it will not get sharp after, let's say ... 30 minutes ... it will never get sharp because it is a fault in terms of construction. It will only get better, but it will never get good.
